QUEERFLEX is Canada’s first non-profit gym centred on creating safer space for queer, trans, and non-binary people in the fitness world through personal training, public education and direct advocacy.

QUEERFLEX is about addressing fitness accessibility - physical, mental, emotional, and financial. We’re about honouring the intersections of identity and trauma that exist in our LGBTQIA2S+ communities, and is a tool in becoming stronger and more sustainable, individually and together, so we can keep doing the work we need to thrive.

Mission, Vision + Guiding Principles

Mission: To address LGBTQIA2S+ fitness accessibility in Edmonton, and beyond.

Vision: We do this through queer-centred personal and group training, public education and direct advocacy in the broader community. While our services are centred around the needs of queer, trans and nonbinary people, we welcome anyone invested in allyship with the LGBTQIA2S+ community to support our mission in whatever way available to them.

Guiding Principles:

  1. Prioritize the needs of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, Two Spirit + community, with an emphasis on the needs of trans and nonbinary folks, queer people of colour, and disabled queer folks in our service delivery and hiring practices.

  2. Uphold Health At Every Size, trauma informed principles in all of our work.

  3. Community over competition - we cannot be all things to all people, and we don’t want to be! QUEERFLEX commits to celebrate the good work and in-line practices of fellow queer fitness professionals and community groups in whatever ways we can.

  4. Impact over intent - operate with an assume best intent, while recognizing and being accountable to the fact that your actions have an impact on peoples’ feelings and experiences.
