LGBTQIA2S+ Fitness Accessibility Training: 101 + Facility Assessment

This workshop and assent is suitable for fitness facilities and studios of all kinds. Invite your entire fit fam - clients, trainers, support staff, grandparents - and learn together, about how you can crate safer more affirming spaces for your queer, trans and nonbinary clients and staff!

Date: On request

Location: Your gym or studio

Cost: $500 (please contact for rates outside of Edmonton and the Surrounding Area. Online options available)

Duration: 2 hour workshop, followed by a maximum 2 hour safe and affirming space assessment.

Description: We talk vocab (just what does 'LGBTQIA2S+' mean?) and gender-inclusive language, and more! We discuss barriers to access that many queer, trans and nonbinary folks have shared they experience in gym settings, and by a few simple things you can do TODAY to address those barriers! We talk about what it looks like to work towards allyship with the LGBTQIA2S+ communities. And we also talk about what to do if you mess up someone's pronouns/name/make an incorrect assumption about someone's identity!

The space assessment (max 2hrs) has us going through the gym as every touch point where a person might come up against a social barrier, and looking to see what your facility currently has in place, along with the policies that might be needed to support queer and trans inclusion and safety. We then will offer recommendations and work with you on tangible ways you can start making those changes - pretty rad, eh?

This course is not eligible for Continuing Education Credits, but those facilities that follow the recommendations made in the assessment will be added to a directory of affirming fitness spaces.
