Hey, I’m Michelle. I am a bisexual, queer, fat, ex-theatre nerd, cat mom, lazy femme human. I am also a counselling student/intern counsellor at the University of Calgary. As the chair of the board of Queerflex and a client, I love being a part of the Queerflex Fit Fam. Outside of this I sell sex toys and talk a lot about oral sex at the Traveling Tickle Trunk, and am the Chair-Elect of the Social Justice Chapter of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). I am also a daughter, sister, friend, lover, aunt, niece, and granddaughter.
I am so thrilled to join the team as a counselling intern and am passionate about queering counselling to support the needs of often silenced identities within mental health. I operate from a perspective that prioritizes lived experience, interrogations of power (including my own), is intentionally anti-oppressive, focused on harm-reduction, and always trauma informed.
My community focus is on working with girls around body image, reducing fat stigma, healthy relationships, and sexual health.
My (forever in progress) website is www.michellekennedy.net and features a collection of writing, ranting, and baking. You can also follow me on twitter (@mnancyken) for cats, feminism, and a lot of rage.
